Favorite Movies/Music to Watch/Listen on a System:
Dark Knight- the opening scene immediately tests the ability of the system to respond to very fast transients and then rapidly transition to good dialog performance with a music bed that should generate tension. Additionally, the fast action and good cinematography will expose any weakness in the video reproduction capabilities. Not to mention it is just a great movie!
The Eagles “hell freezes over” DVD- the audio recording quality is stunning. “Hotel California” will expose fidelity successes and limitations of a system. The congas in this track are a good instrument to listen to if a quick determination is necessary.
U2 “The Joshua Tree”- What can I say? I’m a product of the ‘Eighties. Nevertheless, I know the capabilities of these tracks and never get tired of hearing them on a good audio system. For its day the recording quality is excellent and the production is impeccable.
Comments/Likes about A/V Technology:
I grew up in the era of the first home computers and first CDs. I was immediately drawn to the ability of a good hifi system with a good digital recording to transport the listener to the place where a musician was trying to create. Music and Video are powerful mediums of communication and creativity, and given the right environment, can have dramatic effects on the listener/viewer. Simply put, I love creating those environments.
Hobbies:
Spending time with my family; building audio systems (home and pro); Audio recording/production
Fun Facts:
My wife and I traveled a fair bit as missionaries for 15 years; we have 5 children, 3 of which are adopted- LOTS ‘o fun. I am from the west coast, my wife is from the east.
